View Full Version : How do I get a Cuban Passport?

hi!

My first post here.

My dad is Cuban - left there around 1960. He's dead now, but I'm getting curious about my "other grand-parents" and want to know how to go about getting a Cuban passport?

My mom is American, but I feel once I go to Cuba, I won't want to leave. That's my reason for seeking a Cuban passport rather than an American Passport. Plus, there might be prejudices against me if I'm "half-and-half"...

Any help?

I honestly don't think you will be able to get a Cuban passport.

Also, unless it's true what you say "I feel once I go to Cuba, I won't want to leave", having a Cuban passport will only bring you problems (if you are able at all to get one!) if you then decide you don't like it!

Why don't you visit first, find out what Cuba is really about (both "normal" life and "burocratically")? Then you'll have a clearer vision to make your decision! ;) :D

Hi cuba-son, if you do a search in these forums for cuban passport, I think you will find that you cannot get one because you were not born in Cuba.

Get your American passport and when things will clear up (hopefully soon) and you will be able to go and find your heritage. :)

Good luck :D

Do you have any idea where your father was from, like what town or province

Well, I think it started with an "H", near Havanna, and they grew sugarcane.

Let me look at my birth certificate.

Holguin, Cuba.

Hope that helps.

He said he fled when Batista took over, came to America, got a job as a cook, my grand-dad felt sorry for him, took him home for a homecooked meal, he met my mom, bingo...

:)

Ahh... latin love...

If you know any of the familly names, parents, brothers or sisters stuff like that you can check the "CUBAN WHITE PAGES" on the left side of this page.

Also we have people here who have friends in Holguin, if you can provide names and dates, they might be able to find some information.

No promises, but it's a good start ;)

White pages timed out. *:(

Doimeadios

Father's name was Francisco (?sp) Doimeadios
(which in English means God be with you (as you travel)...
something like that.

He had a brother, name unknown.

He *said* the family owned the sugarcane plantation, but maybe he was trying to impress impress his only son.

He said Batista was good, but Castro was bad. *Took everything the family had. *He and his brother split apart and ran. *My father has a BIG bullet hole in his left side - in and out. *

Guess I'm lucky to be here.

My grandfather (father's father) was named Antonio, and I am named for him.

Wow - hope this helps!!

hahaha, the Cuban white pages are on cuban time, sometimes they time out, try again later.

You are on the right track, do as much research as possible and I am sure you will find something ;)

spelling is very important for all names.

Just keep plugging away in Holguin and if you can find more information perhaps other people can help *:)

Dear cuba-son, Doimeadios is a weird Spanish surname... it means, in an old Spanish way, "I give myself to God"! :P

Also, I don't know what you understand by "close", but Holguin is of 734 km. @455 miles... Take a look:

The white pages worked, here's what I found in the city of Holguin, you must remember that Holguin is a big province and who knows where your family (if any) are located.

DOIMEADIOS Cuenca JORGE *Frexes 227 *Holguín (HO) *42 4168
*
DOIMEADIOS Doimeadios MARTHA M. *25 47 A.Calderón P.Lubumba 26 de Julio *Holguín (HO) *46 5007
*
DOIMEADIOS Estupiñan ALEIDA *A.Moreno 62 22 26 26 de Julio *Holguín (HO) *42 8435
*
DOIMEADIOS Hernández ROBERT *11 5 Nuevo Holguín *Holguín (HO) *48 0629
*
DOIMEADIOS Iñiguez ILIANA *Coliseo 133 P.Torres C.Ctral *Holguín (HO) *42 7596
*
DOIMEADIOS Pérez GLADYS *Edif. 13 10 Hnos.Aguilera *Holguín (HO) *48 1476

*
DOIMEADIOS Ricardo EDELIO *Carralero 98 F.V.Aguilera 11 Sanfield *Holguín (HO) *42 3879 *

You could try writting to some of these people again no promises, but if you do something you have a chance of success, if you don't do anythign ....... and remember mail in Cuba is very slow *;)

just be careful writing to those people some of them would love to be your family even if they aren't and confuse you ;)

if your family were catholic(as most of cuban family use to be) a good start could be writing to the catholic higher representation in Holgin... I think they will help you if you know the year of your father's birth.
Somebody from Holgin here could help you to find where to write....
I'm sorry i can't help b/c i'm in Havana and never been in Holgin :(... anyway i'd take a look to the directory if u want it ;)

cuba-son, think very hard about any other information you might have, check you birth certificate again, did your father have any initials, do you remember the name of your Grandmother and put your information in order something like the following:

Father's name: Francisco Doimeadios
Grandfather's name: Antonio
Grandmother's name: _______
Hometown: Holguin or surrounding area
Year of departure from Cuba: 1959/1960 (not positive but it was during the takeover period see below)

Now a small paragraph with the information you have:

He had a brother, name unknown.

He *said* the family owned the sugarcane plantation, but maybe he was trying to impress impress his only son.

They took everything the family had, so he would have left Cuba during the takeover period 1959/1960. He and his brother split apart and ran. *

My father had a BIG bullet hole in his left side, in and out. *

Any little detail might trigger a memory for someone, like if plantation was close to a lake or river, did he ever talk about his church or his friends or other family, ask your mother if she remembers any little things he might have said, what was his birthday, think very hard all information however trivial can be important.

Now you can fix the above as you see fit and you have a clean clear information package of what you know.

And again Good Luck ;)

WOW - I don't know what to say...

That's an accurate description... thanks for cleaning it up! :)

I'll continue monitoring and thanking you guys...

-Antonio

ps: yes! I remember now - "I give myself to God". I told a schoolboy when I was in school and he made fun of it.

So I'm thinking that my family was a very religious one, or had religious/Christian roots...

Hi cuba-son, if you do a search in these forums for cuban passport, I think you will find that you cannot get one because you were not born in Cuba.

Good luck *:D

Actually, Jack, there are exceptions, like Eloy Gutiérrez Menoyo, born in Spain but later on got Cuban citizenship. But this guy is quite a unique character... ;)

What's the story on him?

Rose
07-01-2004, 10:18 AM
He's a very interesting guy... and he did a move las year that left Cuban authorities shocked, and still don't know what to do with him... He visited Cuba and when in the airport with his wife, ready to leave to Miami, he decided to stay, and remained there till today. He has no "legal" status right now, but authorities did not hassle him either. He just received a visa to come to Spain for the Spanish Socialist Party Congress. It's all very weird...

Gres... he's been allowed to leave Cuban AND come back again!

"El gobierno cubano acaba de concederme autorización para viajar con mi pasaporte cubano al extranjero y regresar de nuevo al país", dijo Gutiérrez Menoyo en una nota de prensa divulgada este miércoles, y agregó que no comentará "los aspectos legales de este permiso".
