Do you think the ciban government will move in future to allow canadians and maybe others into the country on just a tourist card instead of a passport?

I doubt it.

How many countries don't require passports ? And those that don't generally require some other form of ID.

I have noticed your little message close to your profile" Cuban/Russian" . Are you Cuban/Russian?
Also, I would like to know what can you find on page 16 of the passport? I have lived in Cuba for 3 years, but do not remember..
Just curious.

Page 16 of the passport was where Cuban immigration normally put their little stamp.

Ferdelance, here's part of the article posted in Info Cuba.

Visa rule to end for visits by expatriates
Most Cuban-born people living outside the island can visit the country of their birth without a visa starting June 1 if they have a valid Cuban passport, the communist government confirmed Thursday.

It says "if they have a valid Cuban passport"
1- Question: Do you have a valid Cuban Passport. *
2- Question: How long are Cuban Passports valid for?
3- Question: How do you get one or a new one?
4- Start getting ready, contact the Cuban Embassy/Consulate where ever you live and ask.

A point made by acanuck in another forum was, "once in Cuba, you are totally under their control (the Cuban government)" should this be considered?

1- Question: How long are Cuban Passports valid for?,
i forget, but they must be rountinely renewed to remain as a resident alien with the cuban interest section in DC.
2- Question: How do you get one or a new one? see Question #1 their # in DC is 202-797-8518, if you have a an american passport you are no longer a Cuban living abroad, but a US Citizen and i am not sure how that will work, with that being the cae with many older Cubans who left ages ago.
3- Start getting ready, contact the Cuban Embassy/Consulate where ever you live and ask.

as for your concerns about being at the Mercy of the Cuban Govt then? they will treat you as a visitor as they want your dollars, one reason for dropping the reqirement, the other political in nature. so as long as you don't go down there with anti-Castro leaflets and anti-communist stuff and you go for family visit only you will run into no problms as, this has been always the case with Cubans going back to visit family, they are left alone and seen as a source of dollars, but if they try to stir up trouble then you will run afoul of the govt and be charged with crimes against the Govt. or some other crime, but that is no different than in most countries.

Interesting comments with regards to Cubans living in the US, there are a lot of Cubans in other countries where the Government is not in conflict with Cuba.

The 1st question was do you have a Valid Cuban Passport, how many Cuban expats that you know have valid Cuban Passports? *Answer *???

How many Cubans do you know have rountinely renewed their Cuban Passports to remain as resident aliens in the US.
Answer *???

Hopefully this is all going to happen and it is important that people be aware of the requirements and that people start thinking about it, getting whatever information is available and preparing accordingly.

I posted the information you provided in the Info Cuba Forum in the "Visa rule to end for visits by expatriots" thread

How many Cubans do you know have rountinely renewed their Cuban Passports to remain as resident aliens in the US. 4 personally
i say personally as i know of many more but i do not know them or their facts from a personal account. only through word of mouth.

We are in the process of getting Cuban passports renewed through the Cuban Consulate in Toronto, Canada. The cost to renew is under $100 and then is good for another 2 years, or 5 000 Kilometers, whichever comes first. They have been surprisingly good at responding to our queries.

My wife's passport lasted 10,000 miles before it needed renewing !

Cuban's in Cuba get passport valid for six years but which need renewing every 2 years. Don't know if its the same for those ouitside.

I do know that Cuban passports issued in London need to be renewed every two years and the Cuban Embassy puts pressure on Cubans with foreign passports to keep their Cuban one up to date. However virtually every Cuban I know with a British passport lets the Cuban one lapse if they don't intend travelling home since it's easy to reapply when it's finally needed and works out a lot cheaper that way.

I have a question for all of you....please answer back!!
I sent my passport to the cuban embassy in order to renew them, but for some reason the passport got lost or something because i have been waiting for them since April....
i have been calling to the embassy using a number that i got from a friend but that number seems to be disconnected....so i was wondering if any of you know a phone number or fax number that i can use to contact the embassy in order to obtain some information regarding the passport..
Thank you

Alright, now I understand your problem! How long ago was it sent? Did you use DHL because they could have tracked it for you. You could try the Cuban embassy here in Canada to get a message back to Cuba for you...

Isn't there a family member or friend back in Cuba that could investigate this for you?

Oh, I can assure you it's possible. It just depends on how bad he wants to go.

I disagree in this regard.

I have made the trip and so have hundreds more from Marathon to Cuba. I met many Americans that have done so too. Most of them, though are Brits and Canadians and I did meet one Venezuelan that made the trip, or should I say his boat did (he flew in in his own jet), a 110' yacht and the crew, all French Canadians...lol.

So regardless of the laws, I myself have made the trip and nothing has happened to me and at Marina Hemingway there are at least 2-3 boats leaving every week for Marathon for a supply run or to get parts...

absobloodylutely(saby again)...................I live within ten feet of a marina here in Key West. I can see the boats right under my window. I talk to these people all the time. Believe me, it is possible.

That's why I said........it depends on how bad he wants to go.

Cubafish......now say you are sorry. Oh, and name one thing I have said that was misleading or wrong(when not in jest). I have already admitted to being wrong about Fidels death earlier. Although now, I do believe he is dead and the Cuban government is slowly setting it up now. I think that was the only reason Raul made the proclamation that Fidel would be consulted on major issues. He has to continue the ruse......on Ruz.
