Hi,
I'm going to a resort about 70 miles west of Santiago this Dec. 19-26. Does anyone know if there is any fishing to be had in that area. Flats?? Any flyfishing guides?

Thanks, Brian

Are you talking about the Sierre Mar resort at Playa Sevilla that's 40 Km west of Santiago? If so, there are lots of reefs there wtih fairly abundant sealife very close to shore. I'm not aware of any other resorts that far west of Santiago. Is it a new resort? ???

Hi Rick and Bridget

Thanks for your replies. We are staying at the Sierre Mar. There is another resort within 50 kilometers that we can go to as well.
Someone mentioned tarpon fishing near Manzanillo?? That's not too far.

I never fished there but I dived and saw quite an abundance of fish living in two reefs very close to shore as well as along the rocky point on the east side of the private beach. I'm not sure about my fish species but I almost stepped on a stone fish there as well. The Cuban dive guides insisted it was a non-poisonous species. Yeah, right!
Cubans with small nets would "fish" the point every morning. The resort itself has small sailboats and other water craft for you to use. I have no idea what kind of fish would bite a fly though. ??? There are also some public access beaches close-by both east and west of the resort.
I have no idea how adventurous you are but you can rent a moped there and explore or "tip" the employee bus driver $5 to have him take you into Santiago. I went for 5 days and caught the same bus back to the resort. He does the run twice a day. 8)
