Where to stay? Going in April 2005 but am booking soon to save $. Plan on using guides sometimes but want to do some flyfishing on our own. The big question is which area or hotel as there are several to choose from. Any recommendations please let me know.

Thanks
Doug

"booking soon to save $"

I think you have it backwards.... you book late to save money.

April is a good sell off month.

At the end of March I got the cheapest ticket I was ever able to get to Cuba, TO/Varadero, $96 + tax.

May it was $179 + tax, Mtl/Havana
June it was $212 + tax, Mtl/Havana

No decent deals in July/August/Sept. to Havana, where I usually fly into, except for that one Varadero ticket that I couldn't let pass.

The sales are starting again.

Just going by the Air Canada vacation book which says book before this xmas and get up to $200 off. I am afraid to wait till the last minute as they might be sold out.

You have a dilemma, Doug ;). You should find good guided bone fishing in Cayo Paredon Grande which is closer to Cayo Coco. Cayo Guillermo is a half-hour cab drive - $50 US - away from Cayo Coco but probably offers better chances for fishing on your own. There is a channel the road crosses near the hotels, where many locals fish, that you could try. At the mouth of the channel there are flats that likely hold fish.

I stayed at Sol Cayo Coco and Melia Cayo Guillermo and prefer the Sol, but both are fine.

Do a search on this site - plenty of info and let us know how you do.
