I just got back home from Varadero. We were there for two weeks. Last year I brought a lot of fishing gear with me and didn't catch much. This year I didn't bring anything down with me and decided to purchase a spool of line like the locals use and fish with them using the same technique. This was a lot of fun and very rewarding. On our last day we took the Catamaran cruise to Cayo Blanco. Of course I had my line and hooks with me and cought many small perch like fish from the dock. Then I looked behind me into the shallower water and there was three LARGE Tarpon feedind on the perch and hanging under the peir for shade. I hooked one with my tiny hook and it broke off immediately. next year I will try to convince one of the charter capitains to take me to Cayo Blanco specifically for Tarpon.
