Hey Guys! Any one got a good map of Cayo Coco? I can supply a high resolution picture of the nautical chart of Cayo Largo in return. Very useful in planning your excursions from land before you get down there.

We were there last November and a lot of the locals were fishing off the bridge between Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. There is a channel there that is a little deeper than the surrounding water. The main causeway from Cayo Coco to the mainland has 5 bridges where you can fish as well, but that's kind of far away for you. Try the pier behind one of the resorts there, I've heard it's good.

Hi Barracuda2000,

Thank you for your advice. I have had ZERO responses to my posted email ???. So I hope you don't mind me asking you a few questions. Did you stay at the Villa Club Cojimar - how was it? Would you know of any flats maybe holding bonefish near the hotel, I would LOVE to get one on the FLY? Are there any guides available in the area? Did you get a chance to go deep sea fishing, if so where and how much did it cost? I think those are enough questions for now. I leave next week any advice is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Hey Hookedup! We stayed at the El Senador. I've heard there are bones around there, but not sure where. Check with the locals. Went deepsea fishing twice. $220.00 for the boat for a half day. Went for billfish, got 2 strikes, but had to settle for 2 barracuda. The second time no billfish strikes, but 4 barracuda, one about 4 1/2 feet, and a nice lobster lunch that the captain dove for. Hope this helps and have a good time.

:o :P :P Hmmmmm...LOBSTER GOOD!!!

Thanks for responding so quickly.
Were the bonefish near the hotel you stayed at or closer to the one I will be at? The 1/2 day charter with tip was $220.00 for one trip or two? Did/Do you do any diving, if so where? Once again thanks for your help.

Hookedup- 220.00 was for the boat, captain, and mate. Only 2 of us went out, so if you think that way, 110.00 each. I can't certify for health reasons, but there is an island off Playa Pilar with a Spanish Steamer shipwreck. It was too rough to get out there the day we went, Too bad, would make for good pics while snorkelling. There are flats on the north side every so often, I think you'll have to do a bit of exploring. You could always pocket some squid or shrimp from one of the buffets, and try the channels off the bridge.

:( Sorry to hear about the certification.

;D Snorkeling is a lot cheaper and some times more fun than scuba diving though.

Wow!!! That was a pretty good deal for the deep sea fishing where do you get the charter from Cayo Coco or Cayo Guillermo and do you remember the name of the boat?

Cheers,

We've been fishing on Cayo Largo as well for the same price. I always tip the crew 20.00 extra and all the fish. (If we get some) I believe this is a standard price for Cuba. We've always booked through the tour operator at the resort. There is a marina on both Cayos, although we went out of Coco obviously. Another thing you might try is the Jungle Tour on Guillermo. Drive your own little speed boat and snorkel in a canal that's a fish breeding ground. About 2-3 hours long and from what I remember 35.00ea?

Hey Hookedup, Missassauga eh? I'm in Stoney Creek, Small world. If your taking a spinning rod, there's cudas under the pier on the north side of Guillermo. The Jungle Tour takes you through the mangrove swamps in a convoy of about 8 to 15 little boats, 2 people per boat. Don't forget to take some extra money as they take your picture and you can buy an 11X14 print. Check out the above link from jeffg and see if there is any tarpon info. That would be exciting. We got back from Costa Rica 2 weeks ago. One morning we got 1 roosterfish, 3 jack crevalle, 7 large skipjacks. A little different fishing on the Pacific, they make you catch your bait first. No bait, no goin' for big stuff. Actually, we were thinking about the Myan Riviera for this coming November. I take underwater pictures if I can, and I hear the snorkelling is fantastic there.
