I am going to Melia Hotel Resort in Cayo Coco 1st week in January and want to know if you can fish on the beaches around the resort???
Help!!!
Pyefish,
The beaches nearby attract a lot of swimmers, etc. and I doubt they'd appreciate somebody casting from shore. However, you will be able to borrow a paddle boat that would allow you to get to the reefs .5 km off shore (watch where the snorkelling excursion boats go). I was there last February and never took the time to try it but it looked interesting. There is also a coral headland near Sol Cayo Coco hotel where you could fish - I snorkelled there and saw some decent-sized fish.

Hi
There are several places at nearby Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Romano Island(30-40 min drive each place).
The channels between Cayo Coco and Guillermo/Romano also holds a lot of fish.
I was only fly fishing without boat but together with the only fishing guide on Cayo Coco who is Orlando Gonzales. If you want to contact him please contact with Ivis Pimienta the Cubatur Rep in Melia Cayo Coco Hotel. She is Orlandos wife.
We fished both some small channels and some flats at Romano and caught Bonefish,Permit,B.Cuda, snappers and lost 2 tarpoons.
If you want to stay at Guillermo(Hotel Melia and Sol) please contact the reception and ask for fishing guide Donieski Urban. He works in close relationship with Orlando.
Tight Lines!

Take a walk SE from the Melia on the Beach for about 2 miles. Gets a little tough walking (need to go around some Mangroves), but there is a flat there. You can see it coming in from the airport if you look closely. I first heard of it from a local at the resort. I didnt quite get to it myself when I stayed there because I was a little to chicken to walk around the mangroves in high tide by myself and didnt know of its existence when I first went exploring in that direction. But you can see it and I have also talked with people from Canada who have fished it. BTW....all the flats have Bonefish in that area.
Enjoy
