Need Recommendations

Looking for recommendations for fishing in the Havana area. Prefer to aviod resort guides. Ocean and/or lake. I will need tackle. Appriciate any help. Tkx

You have a lot ot learn about Cuba. There is no fishing at or near Havana except for a couple of old charterboats located at Marina Hemingway (8km west of Havana). Maybe it's not right to say there is no fishing in Havana as Havana is located on the ocean and fish live in the ocean, so you can bring a rod and reel with you and fish off of the seawall (called the Malecon) in Havana along with the locals, most of whom use hand lines. There is no tackle available anywhere in Cuba except for what is on a few of the not recommended charterboats. The closest fishable lake is a 4 hour drive. Sorry for the bad news.

I remember the first time I looked over the Malecon in Havana at the garbage floating in the pretty brown water! :P I watched as some Cubans were walking along the rocks at low tide and one reached down and pulled up an octopus! :o They were all very excited and delighted with their find... and I think the octopus was equally glad to get out of the water! ;D :-X
