Hi everyone!

I'm new to this forum and have to say it is great!

My problem....I have a friend working at the Coralia Club Playa De Oro in Varadero and don't believe they have received any of the letters I have sent. I am trying desperately to get in touch and am wondering if anyone is either planning a trip to that resort and can bring a letter to my friend.....or if anyone has any advice on how to get in touch. I was thinking about calling the resort and asking to speak to them but I also don't want to get anyone in trouble as they rely on the job and don't want them to lose it.

I want to make sure that they are in fact working at the same resort as I plan to visit in July.

Any help or suggestions would help TREMENDOUSLY!!!!!!

Thanks in advance!

welcome wicker.
l hope you find someone to help you.
l've seen the hotel you mention when we where in varadero.
we had a guided tour of all the hotels.
what happened was we were staying at las americas, and we decided that we would take the hotel bus back to havana.
2 hours later we were still in varadero,as the bus had to pick up people from all the other hotels. :o :o
mel was cracking a mental, but l quite enjoyed it,
l think the best looking hotel from the outside is the paradiso,it has a japanese garden at the front.

Thanks for the reply Melissas!

Hopefully I can find a "cuba expert" that can offer some help or advice! Anyone???????

The Coralia Club was awesome. The layout was great and had the best food I have had in Cuba!

When I go in July, I'll have to check out the Paradiso....it sounds beautiful!

relax
When you get back to Cuba go back to the same resort and look for your freind , I dont know Varadero to well , although been there lots , just dont stay there ;D .
He or she will most likely still be there , its a hell of a high profile job in Cuba to work in Varadero . Worse case , if he or she doent work there , just start asking around the resort for this person and you will get leads on finding out the where abouts .

Hola AlexaRus!

Thanks for the kind words and well wishes!

I too wish you the same.

How long have you known your "Cubano"? I often get a little skeptical that the feelings are genuine or if they are simply searching for a better life......a life that Canada could offer.........

What has your expereince been? Are you planning to marry?

..don't believe they have received any of the letters I have sent. *

..or if anyone has any advice on how to get in touch. *

I was thinking about calling the resort

The post service is a bit lousy, I have also lost several letters from Norway to Havana, and the ones arriving have taken a very long time.

Now I send letters and small packages as registered mail and they have all arrived safely.

You may send a registered mail to your friend. It will arrive, but it takes a long time.

Better is to phone. Do not be afraid of disturbing, everyone in Cuba with a phone is used to people phoning to neighbours/friends. Be prepared to use long time to come through.

In my experience phoning from Norway the problem is not in Cuba, but on the way. Normally I use 5-10 tries to come through to get a foreign line and then I regularly get a Japanese voice telling me (in English) the subscriber is not existing.... or the network is busy... or a message in Japanese... all followed with heavy blipping...

But rather often it starts ringing in Cuba 1-2 seconds after punching the last number! ...and it's the right line! (...and she's there!)

The trunk lines east-west in Cuba is modernised with fiber optics and Chinese node equipment. The local (copper) lines are terrible and many phones are in bad shape with bad internal switches making much contact noise etc.

Mobile service is very good, but very expensive!

I would start with a ring. All big hotels have internet, maybe your friend can arrange to use email. I use email now to Cuba and do not send letter unless I must send something physical.

You ttype in your letter on their web page, they print it, put it in an envelope and drop it into the mail system in Havana.

Works very well. They also have a mail back service and a voice mail service.

Hi there. I've just been to Cuba-Varadero in Feb 06 and I met an animator called Doyler. I'm not sure if it is the same guy you wanted to find but he is now working in Sandals Resort Princessa Del Mar and he's been there for about a year now. Hope this helps.
