... I am from Eastern Europe and I have a friend whose father was from Cuba (he went to the university in Eastern Europe in the seventies). Her mother has lost touch with her father completely many years ago. My friend is now 26 years old and would very much like to meet her father. She has contacted the Cuban embassy in her country but they haven't done much about it... Does anybody know of any way to trace down a person in Cuba? Websites (in English or Spanish), anything... Any ideas welcome. I'm not expecting much in the way of response to this post, but I don't know which way to turn, and I'd like very much to help her.
Thanks everybody.

The Cuban Red Cross can help you, also Red croos in your country, it maybe take times.
I think is one solution.

Dear Help for a Friend:

I hope your friend finds her dad. I have a few ideas. First, she should try to get as much information from her mom as possible such as first and last name. Then, she might want to go to or contact the university in Europe where they met and look at old records to find out more information about her dad. Maybe the old records might have an address in Cuba that would let her know what his home town was. Or it might have the name of his high school. Then, if she can get the money together, she should go to Cuba to the home town and ask around about her dad. Just be aggressive and persistant keep asking people to help her. Some will help and some won't, so ask a lot of people for help, especially the ones that seem nice. Even if she doesn't find her dad, she might find an aunt or a cousin or a brother. Don't give up!

This might be pushing it but if you get some reletives names you can try to look up the white pages if you know the local area where they live.
You might run in to a uncle, cousin.ect.
White pages phone linc is on the left.

Good luck Mike

Hi!

I think your friend should go to the Cuban ambassy or consulate in his country and ask. The Cuban Foreign Ministry gives this type of service. They can track down people living in Cuba and probably abroad, too.
I wish you good luck!

I encourage what you are doing. It is a little bit more difficult for someone in America to look up their Cuban heritage (as I have been trying to do!!!) However, you are at an advantage since you are in Europe. Use whatever searches your country will give you as an advantage. Good luck with your search, and I hope I've offered you some encouragement! (Sorry I could not be of more help.)
