I am going to Cuba in 3 weeks and was wondering if it is worth trying out lake Redonda. I have read a lot of mixed reviews about this lake. Some say it is over fished and some say it is the best bass fishing in the world.

Does anyone have any information on how to get a fishing licence in Cuba and where and how to rent a boat for a day on la Redonda? Has anyone fished La Redonda recently?

Trust those who told you Redonda is overfished and not worth the time.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but do not trust anyone who told you there is good bass fishing at Redonda. And it has the "best bass fishing in the world?" What a joke that is. <- this report probably came from an outfitter who used to take anglers to Redonda prior to the Russian pullout in 1991 when the fishing was good there, but that was almost 15 years ago and is old news. The bass fishing is better wherever you are from than at Redonda. In fact, the bass fishing is better wherever you live than in most places in Cuba. Sad but true as the Cubans, out of necessity have caught and eaten most of the great resource that used to be there prior to the Russian pullout.

But if you feel you must try, be sure to have a back up plan for where to go after your disappointment at Redonda.

Don't know who told you you need a fishing license in Cuba, but that is also bad advice. Once you are in Cuba, if someone tries to sell you a fishing license, be forewarned that you are being scammed. However, that said, there is a bonefishing operation in SE Cuba where they charge for a fishing license - this operation is so remote that anglers have no choice but to pay this "bribe."
