Can anyone help me - I'm trying to remember the name of a cuban movie I saw some time ago...about a brother who injected himself with AIDS, etc. I want to rent it again but can't remember the name!

not to be pedantic but this is a US/ Dominican Republic production, not a Cuban one. Director Leon Ichaso is a very anti Castroite Cuban American and it was filmed in the Dominican Republic.

(which doesn't mean don't watch the film - just be aware it's not Cuban and it's coming with an agenda of its own.) Certainly incidents of the roqueros injecting themselves with HIV did happen - at least a few - and were discussed in some corners of the Cuban media too.

I've heard of rare a phenomenon amongst some gay subcultures (in the west) of men intentionally being recipient of the HIV virus (this is not common at all), but never of this in Cuba. Is the situation of the rockers in Cuba injecting themselves with the virus intentional, or was it a undesired consequence of illegal drug use?

When the AIDS sanatoriums came into being in Cuba (late 80's early 90's) life was reported to be pretty good for the inmates (well, by prevailing Cuban standards anyway) and there were many such rumours of people injecting themselves in order that they could be admitted.

Whether this was all just urban myth or whether there are documented cases I don't know.
