I just started dating a wonderful Cuban..his birthday is next week and i want to cook him dinner and he has told me the one thing his misses is the beans and rice. his mother is on the east coast and he is here in california..so i want to cook it for him and i want to make authentic not betty crocker version...could someone point to a good receipe please.

have made this recipe many times and it is very good..
l dont put cummin in like it says and use fresh tomtoes instead of paste...
also instead of the oil l use pork dripping...naughty but nice
and add fresh celentra

Another quick recipe which my husband showed me is really very easy.
A little oil in the bottom of a wok pan
long grain rice (approx 2 cups)
heat oil and rice until it starts turning colour
Add in 1 onion and about 3-4 large garlic cloves
1 can of black beans (or you can cook the hard ones first but canned is easier)
Hot water until it covers the rice in the wok
2 tbsp soy sauce
Cook on low-medium until rice is cooked.....

You need to do it correctly - my first few attempts based on other recipes were not good. It was only after my Cuban wife had shown me how to do it properly that I got it right. That's why I wrote the instructions in so much detail.
