Just finished reading this book, a new (published in 2006) travel memoir about Cuba by Lea Aschkenas, and I highly recommend it! It's about the author's ten months in Cuba, in which she falls in love with the country and with a Cuban man, who she ultimately marries. But it's about much more than romance. It's also about history, politics, and daily life in Cuba. The prose is pitch-perfect, and made me feel like I was back in Cuba while I read it. Also, surprisingly for a book by an American author, it's balanced.
