Hi there, I'm new to Forums so I did my best to search my subject before posting, I couldn't find any discusions on it?? I put it in the "mail" catigory because I'm also continually reading and looking for new safe ways to send gifts for my Cuban Friends :)

I live in Canada, I found a Toronto based company at www.supermarket.treew.com (http://www.supermarket.treew.com) that promises delivery of groceries anywhere in Cuba. Basically you shop online and pay online for the groceries and delivery fee. The products seem to me to be items I saw in the local grocery stores in Cuba. They claim to deliver your order to the Cuban family within 15-21 days. It's pricey and the items are limited but to me it seems great "IF IT WORKS??" I would certainly love to send a basket once or twice a year to my Cuban friends. If anyone has ever used this service could they please let me know what their experience was, if all the items were delivered?

I'd appreciate any info people may have.

Hi sunshine, welcome
I have used this service many times , you can trust them. In fact the goods are not cheap compared to our Western standards , but there are not much alternatives . Many Cubans can't afford to buy in the expensive supermarkets in Havana-miramar (like Palco etc). Don't send simple food like rice or cooking oil , they buy it a lot cheaper with their subsidised ration book (libreta) Good quality and value is the Canadian meat and Dutch cheese.....they are mad about it in Cuba , you can't compare the meat ( carne de res) in Cuba with our standards for good meat , they are used to eat chicken because it's less expensive. Send items like toothpaste , soap etc. I even have send a fridge and a tv set a few years ago...no problems . Deliver time to Havana 6-8 days , rest of Cuba 2-3 weeks. You receive an email when the parcel arrives at destination. I 'm a very satisfied user of this service....the only thing , indeed some every day items are not cheap. They also charge you +/- 10 cuc delivery costs . Hope this helps. www.havana-guide.com (http://www.havana-guide.com)

Thank-you very much for your reply. I'm working on an order now, I appreciate the information about the Beef too, it crossed my mind, with the prices they charge, I wondered if they could buy it 25xcheaper. From what you say I think it'll be a nice Christmas gift :) Thanks again

I have used this company many times over the last few years, they have recently changed thier company name. They are reliable and my packages have always arrived. However, I have found some new companies that I am using now because they are less expensive.

I sent an order from www.mallhabana.com (Spain) last month and it did arrive (however their website is in Spanish, my spanish is not very good, but I was able to figure it out). Better prices though! You can also try www.antillas-express.com (Canada), website in english, french and spanish, they are reliable as well.

Nice of you Sunshine. I'm sure your friends in Cuba will really appreciate your gift.

I called the supermarket.treew guys the other night about buying a TV they had advertised. It was pretty much the same price as those in the shops in Santiago but, since we are in London at the moment, having it delivered would have been worth the hassle of dealing with them.

The guy in Canada assured me that everything on the website was available to order, but by the time I looked this morning (with the intention to place an order) all the electrodomestic items had been removed :(

mallhabana looks interesting though as an alternative, maybe I'll give them a call...
