So, please wiljos, let us know about your experience through Cuban Customs, you were worried about:
"1. Should I be concerned about getting hassled at Customs or in Habana by police officers since it says in my passport that I am a Nicaraguan national? I just don't know if I will be treated different because I look hispanic"

Hi Rose, no problems at all, in fact, I had more questions coming into Canada than in the Varadero airport, which is where I landed. As soon as they saw my Canadian passport and noticed I was a Nicaraguan National they were extremely friendly with me. When I came back to Canada the guy at Customs asked me why I was travelling alone and seemed suspicious when I told him that it was my first time going there and alone. I didn't care though, I had nothing to hide. I had such a wonderful time in Havana that 1 week was not enough, now I miss it so much. Are you Cuban?
Wiljos, I re-directed your answer to the thread you had started. And no, I'm no Cuban...

I know this is a ways away but in August there is an event at City Hall in Toronto.
It is the Toronto Cuba Friendship Day.
There are speaches yes .... but also music and dance.
You could also check out the Canada Cuba Friendship Association.

They have which may attract Cubans living in TO.

I'd love to meet Cuban people my age, men or women. I''ve been to all of these Clubs and I'm not sure why I haven't been able to meet any Cuban people willing to make new friends.

Hey Wiljos< I can't really say why you haven't been able to make new friends in these clubs, but I can just give you my possible reasons why. Might be because you tend to go alone. Women that you talk to probably think you are looking for more than friendship. Couples that you talk to, maybe the guy feels threatened that you might really be interested in his girlfriend/wife. Guys that you talk to...I have no idea really, but from what I do know aren't usually receptive to new friendships. You need to find a escourt "buddy" to visit these clubs with you, probably someone female, not a girlfriend though, but if you have someone with you, people are often more friendly and receptive to you IMO. If you go alone they just think you are desperate or crazy...I am exagerating of course, but I'm sure you understand what I mean. If you need someone to accompany you I would be willing, we could just say I was your friend...or mother. LOL. Anyway you know how to get in touch, just an offer, but it might help!http://www.cubamania.com/cuba/images/icons/icon7.gif
