I have a somewhat odd question. So we're working away at the paperwork, trying to get my husband his passport and medical exam and everything, but I was wondering if anyone knew about sponsoring someone to canada without trying to get residency. Say, for instance, he were to come here and we went right away to Spain or another country. Is that possible? Can he travel freely with his Cuban passport??
(previous note to follow)
Hi everyone. I just married a Cuban and now I'd like to get him to Canada ASAP. I know that thanks to the lovely beaurocracy on both sides, this will take a while. I'm currently filling out the massive booklet from Immigration Canada.... is there anything else I should be doing, or do I just send in those papers with the $$ and twiddle my thumbs?
Thanks

Yet, another one bites the dust.

I recommend our sister board www.cubaamor.com, although it sounds like it might be already too late for that. . . :)

Seriously, www.cubaamor.com is the best resource for this kind of thing. I used it a lot in sorting the paperwork for my Cuban wife, and I posted some of my own advice over there. You'll find stuff in threads here as well if you dig around, but CubaAmor has more.
Good luck, and I hope like me you are one of the ones who can build a good marriage with your Cuban wife.

Basically yes, you fill out the application, both parts....his and yours and then you sit and twiddle your thumbs. Make sure you go through the paperwork with a fine tooth comb. Anything that is forgotten will cost you a delay.
A little glimmer of hope? The embassy is processing files at a pretty good rate...majority of them anyways unless your husband has done any military time or works anywhere in security.....a security interview could delay the file but straight forward files are getting through in about 8-10 months and some are getting through much quicker.
Good luck on your process.

I've already been through the process and my husband has been here for 2 years, so I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO done with immigration...lol
You can download the application and hand guide from their website at www.cic.gc.ca (http://www.cic.gc.ca). When you get into the site, go to forms and publications, or forms on-line. You will however need to call them to request a payment receipt form as you can't download that from the site. You can also make your payments to CIC on-line.
You follow the instructions in the guide step by step and once it's filled out you submit the application to CIC here....but I wouldn't worry about that until you are married, that's a big enough hurdle as it is.
Do you even know what documents you need to get married there and that they have to be translated and notarized by the Cuban conuslate (this refers to the process for Canada, I don't know about any of the other countries)

Transfer any and all assets you may have to your mother.
Contact the company that makes those GPS devices that go around your ankles so you can keep trac of him.
Tell him Miami is closed.
Hope that helps.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...in this case Pepin, you are MORE than correct.
Any more ways for this poor girl to protect herself? (sincerely, she needs it)

My husband and I were married in July and he was in Canada by September of the following year. Canadian immigration may indeed question the validity of your marriage, especially if there is a difference in age, if you have not known one another for long or if they suspect a marriage of convenience on the part of either party. There are no guarantees just because you are married to a Cuban.
Once a Cuban arrives here in Canada through legal channels, he/she becomes a landed immigrant. You will have to look up on the various rules for landed immigrant status because the Cuban could lose his/her status if they leave Canada for certain lengths of time. Having a Cuban passport does not guarantee that they can freely travel. The Cuban, even with landed status here in Canada, has to apply to the Cuban government for a visa to travel outside Cuba, even though they are living here.
I know, it is complicated but that is how it is. I wish you good luck in your marriage. Unfortunately, you may need all the luck you can get.
