Well where do I start,
On the first morning ,I was up early due to time differance so I decided to scout around and went down the beach about 6.30 am walked round to the rocks etc and immediately found out how friendly the Cubans are, I was greeted and welcomed by the security guard Leo who then went on to tell me about fishing in the area and how hard it is for them to get fishing gear out there, and was asked if I have any hooks spare. So if you are going out take as many pkts of hooks as you can please everyone needs them and line, there are no tackle shops.
The most friendly of the Cubans was the MOZZIES they were queuing up to greet me and I lost count how many bites I got going out so early.
So that was the end of early morning fishing and no chance of night fishing.
My mate and me took a ruck sack to breakfast and half filled it with bread rolls for bait which we recieved funny looks from the waitresses.
We were useing floats size4 hooks and caught straight away all sorts of fish no big ones though.I saw a few Cubans on my early walk who went out fishing on inflated lorry innertubes and they returned about dinner time with a sack 1/2 full of fish. One of the older men came over and looked how we were fishing and laughed and showed us how they do it, this was with a small lead wait 1/4 ounce then a hook about 4 " on from that. Then gave us a packet of prawns, we then searched out some hooks etc and a 1CUC and gave it to him, after some time we got him to take it.
Our fishing did improve but we lost to much gear so we went back to float fishing.
On our way back for refreshments we were asked by the First aid boys if we were interested to go boat fishing for 20 CUC`s each they would supply bait , to which we agreed a time the next day.
We got there and was greeted and the other chap said he would go and sort out the boat.................A few mins later......................He appears pedalling a pedlo....... it could only happen in cuba.
For his cheek we agreed to go out on this (which we could hire at no cost) and with a lump of rock as an anchor and a bit of strap , roared out to the deeps. We caught a few waves going out which ruined the camera and phone but we caught fish.Unfortunetly no big ones but we saw a barracuda 10lb-15lb but he did not stay for long.We were out for 6 hours and 1/2 filled up the foot wells with fish and return very sore and num.
We done this again a couple of days later but caught much the same, we just went out on the rocks and on our own on the pedlo`s.
I fished the beach on caught needle fish ,barber fish, broncho,Parrot fish and yellow stiped fish which were all good sport, and found the barber fish that were blue in colour and were as big as your hand fought the best. These fish have by their tail bright yellow bits which look really nice,BUT AS I FOUND OUT THEY ARE SPINES, they open them as I released him back into the water and as he swam through my fingers he sliced my thumb open which the bleeding was hard to stop.SO BEWARE.there are grey ones too that have blue spines same speices and great fighters.
Did not catch much on lures through out holiday.
Our 2nd to last day was our best catching needle fish non stop on small bit of bread crust on the surface we ended up with about 15 kids round us so I hooked them then let them have the rod to bring the fish in it was the best and most rewarding day of my fishing life, some of these kids have never fished with a rod before and I so wanted to give them a spare rod I had but it would of caused so much trouble it was not to be.
For the poeple in the UK I even used a rod from poundland and a float and had great sport in the water on the beach.
One other great bait is hermit crab which you find in the bushes as they are land hermit crabs but watchout for the mozzies as it is better to get then at dusk.
Hobbie cats were charging 40CUC for 2 hours did not hear of any one catching on these.Did feel these were ripping people off as the average wage in cuba is about 20 CUC per MONTH our trip at least lasted all day.
So please take as much as you can over and try and spread it out to as many people as you can.
TIPS
For you staying at the Playa Costa Verde Leo secrurity gaurd at the exit to the beach has asked for some hooks to be taken over please and ask for Go Go (Gonzarlas) at the towel hut by the pool he will get hold of some prawns for a few CUC`s and in need of hooks.
Take out some nylon cord you can attach it to a rock and you have and anchour for your pedallo.

Will try for photo`s but Camera got wet and stopped working eary into holiday.
hope this helps, feel free to ask if not will try and help out as much as poss.

Regard Ianp
