Anyone have any experience with, or could advise about, Cayo Largo weather conditions in October ? I'm trying to plan a trip for October but not sure whether to go early or late in the month. Any ideas ? TIA.

Other than the hurricane risk, the weather in October is usually excellent. If you can avoid booking until closer to the travel date you will be better off. Besides, for AI packages, they drop like a rock when there is an imminent threat of a hurricane in the Caribbean, but rarely does a hurricane effect the entire country. Meaning I have flown my mother to Cuba to visit on a AI for less than normal airfare because a hurricane was effecting Isla de la Juventud & Pinar Del Rio... It brought two days of cloud cover to where we are.

Cayo Largo, besides being very small (vulnerable), is one of the first spots to get evacuated under threat of hurricanes. It is also quite boring....lol.

Other than the threat of a hurricane, October, like April are IMO the best two months weather wise to visit Cuba.

Good advice from the above poster on the rates, as October is not prime tourist season, so if you wait until the last week before you depart, you will find rates that are almost unbelieveable.

You will find a lot of information about Cayo Largo here: http://www.cayolargo.net/introduction.htm, and even more information here: http://debbiesreviews.proboards88.com/ <- scroll down to the Cuba Forum and then scroll through the posts looking for Cayo Largo information. There is a wealth of unbiased information on all of the AI's in Cuba on this site.

Thanks for the info guys. This will be my second visit to CL but last time I was there was late May/early June and while the weather was fabulous (low winds & warm temps) I found the flats/shallows got just too warm by mid morning & the bonefish were scarce. I thought I'd try October this time in the hope that the good fishing lasted a little further into the day rather than just a couple of hours at first light. Appreciate the tip about the AI prices plummeting closer to departure, that was my experience last time there. I have to travel from Western Canada so it's a bit of an arduous route to get there but well worth it IMO. Any other tips appreciated.

Cubafish, would you suggest early or late in the month or is anytime in October good ?

IMO anytime in October is a great time to be there for bonefish, but if I had my choice, I would opt for later in October as it will be a bit cooler then.
