Iv'e bought wind up torches as advised ( 3.99 from Wilkinsons they also do a smaller pump version for 2.99 ) and i would like to give these to the local fisherman. This is where i start to get confused, are the handline fishermen on the bridge locals ? Because i was led to believe that people who don't work at the hotels or have business there aren't allowed on the cayos, and that these fishermen were hotel workers between shifts.
Also do all the workers travel back to Moron or do the hotels provide accomadation?

Thanks Waggerlad both for the reply and the advice on the torches, but i'm still confused i'm sure i'll figure out whos who and i would rather the things i give be used for them and theirs rather than sold.
But are the locals from Moron or do they actually live on the Cayos

Sup Bri? Fished the bridge for 3yrs. There an old fella with a machete thats always there, he or most of the others aren't strictly meant to be there. Sometimes they get moved on. Its not the best spot for fishing tho and you can get hassled for tackle. I try and fish it once every year coz I like the old guy and he appreciates any items of tackle he gets.He knows the spot inside out too, worth taking his advice.

hi bri
there is no workers or old waving machete waving gentlemen living on the cayos. they come from all over the place to fish mark is right they do get moved on the old bloke is a god send he fished the pier with me this may and had bog basic tackle but he put right on the nose of a fantastic snapper of about 10lb it fought like a tiger but he got it in he was fishing with his son they had walked for miles to fish the night before so i gave him 5 pecos for the bus home i thought he was going to hug me to death.
i also gave him line, hooks ect but the thing he went mad for was the cable from inside the telephone line the small wires red, blue, green ect i was using for fish attraction near the hooks he loved it. fished twice more with him and taking loads of big hooks for him and a hook sharpener i also gave him stainless steel hook as they do not rot and you can sharpen them to death regards

hi bri
it was cuc pesos and no i dont speak spanish, but i dont need to my rod in my hand is good enough just show the local lads kindness and give them a few bits of gear and a drink i alway take food fruit, ect from the buffet or the cans from the fridge they sharp get the idea.
im taking 100lb line with me to give one of the lads who i fished with in may he uses it to fish a handline and 3 pairs of rigger gloves so he can pull it with crazy sod.
the gardeners at the resort love the cheap gloves at pondland took a few pair on the last few trip we got a few people to give us there beer from the fridge and sat in the hut and got the gardeners merry lol.

Hi again

It's a shame wer'e going to miss Mark as he'l be keeping my seat warm for the journey home, he sounds just up my street. Although i stopped wearing slingback wellies years ago, size fourteens cost a bomb and they only last a few months when your'e over twenty stones.By the way you obviously haven't tried getting 100lb line in landlocked s,yorks, and don't mention the internet our lass is getting sick of parcels arriving. The last lot was white tube lures and i'm up to about 12kilos already, still iv'e bought a couple of nice rods to leave maybee one to the old guy?would he use it or are they stuck on the handlines?

Two decent barracuda caught in cancun last nov, went out in boat at the back of me paid far to much to hire it privately(got ripped off)just desperate to catch something before returning to veg city! Sea was rough came back in past marker bouys and got chased by coastguard, when we finally got back to Marina if you could call it that ,got accused of nicking fishremans joint! Cuban fishing sounds a breeze.
