A friend who arrived at the Melia yesterday has let me know that the jetty has been destroyed from the 1st hut onwards by tropical storm Noel. They say that they will rebuild it asap.

Yeah, I've seen the devastation on T.V. and heard via the family in Hialiah that it's all bad in el Oriente now. I hope the waters recede soon.

The rocks are fishing well for snapper to 3-4lb, with 4 fish per short session. The bridge is producing all the usual stuff.

I came back on the 18th of Oct. My mate arrived on 4/11. I don't know about the cojamar pier but if you're going that far you may as well go to the bridge. You can walk out from the cojamar pier and fish the channel that floods under the bridge but wading you have to travel light. I believe repair work starts on 15/12 on Melia pier.
The Snapper came from an area after the Sol but before Pilar. I don't know where but all of that stretch can produce almost anything. I had the biggest needle fish I ever saw close to the Sol on floatfished shrimp. I failed to land it but it must of been 5 feet long & 6 ins diam'....... (no it wasn't a Cuda).
More info as I receive it.
Regards, Dave.

Many thanks for the update baino.

Hi Waggerlad Are you up for the pedalo ?

Hi Mark it's like Waggerlad say's have rod will travel, it just makes it more
of a challenge! Iv'e been going back over the info and packed trainers for the rocks and figured out some kind of net for the bridge e.t.c. Does anybody know how deep it is at the end hut ?,i know it depends on the tide but any info is good info!

P.s i love the bar but fishing V the bar is too close to call.

Regards Bri.

hi bri
the end hut is sometimes about 7 foot if not a bit more at high tide just get a pedalo and tie it up at the pier end as for drinks and food i will send the other half for it all she will love that lol.
as for a drop net at the bridge seen some big fish been tried to get landed only to be smashed off on the bridges pilings they where trying to land them of the speedboat rock edges regards

Hi Bri. The Depth is between 6-9ft depending on the tide at the end. Everyone heads for the end hut but the biggest fish I saw taken (Amberjack of 40lb) came from the 1st hut. A German bloke had the fish on for 45mins. I have a photo somewhere. Also Cuda can be taken at any depth even on the clean sand & Snapper anywhere in the sea grass. I would miss the pier if I was going but it's not the end of fishing at the Melia.
Regards, Dave.

Hi Waggerlad

Whats the crack with the pedalos, can you have them as long as you like or is there a time limit and is there a ladder on the end of the pier because i'm not exactly famous for my agility!

If theres the slightest ripple they wont let you on 1 anyway Bri. If its really windy your better off in the bar coz the fishings crap. Dont do what me and Wagger did last year and stick it out. It was more like fishing the bloody Falklands! We did rustle up a mighty erection to hide behind though, made out off sunbeds and string! (tut tut you out there with dirty minds).

Hi Bri. Wagerlad is right my mate is called Steve. He's a scouser & a propper salt of the earth bloke. I've been to the Melia 8 times now & thats still less than Steve & Jane. Steve will be there with our dech-hand Lou. Lou's a local lifeguard that helps us out in return for a snapper or 2. As far as the pedalo.... Lou may return it and ferry you back after, or one of the hobbycat guys will take you for a few$. Speak to steve when you're there, He knows every place there is to fish around there & will point you in the right direction. I have a photo of a 20lb (at least) permit Steve had from the 1st hut one morning this time last year. You will get no bull from him. When we're there together we fish from 6am to 6pm. Our wives are good friends too which helps. You'll find good people there such as Waggerlad & Mark to talk & fish with. There seems to be a stream of anglers arriving constantly now.
I think it's best we keep this place to ourselves!
Good luck Bri,
Regards, Dave.

Hi Mark
Is this mighty erection thing something to do with fishing for flies mark ? If they won't let me have a pedalo I'll just have to swim out with my 12 kilos of tackle.By the way mark i'll leave you a pressie with waggerlad, just some flies i aquired at some point in my magpie phase. They won,t be any good for cuba but i'm sure they will attract some sheep in welsh wales,or maybee some trout.Anyway they're no use to me mate!

Regards bri.

Cheers Bri. I am thinking of starting a knew craze of 'Fly fishing for sheep', dont laugh! Think of the benefits:-
A. Gotta be easy to stick a whickhams fancy into a wooly back.
B. Think of the line the buggers will take, over fences and roads.
C. The farmer gets paid a moderate fee for doing nowt.
D. The quality of the meat improves coz of the exercise.
Obviously the pilot scheme will be at night to start with and on a strict catch and release policy ofcourse!
Wheres the down side?
