View Full Version : Cayo Guillermo catch reports
What has the fishing been like lately?
I will be there on the 22 for 2 weeks, staying at the Melia.
Is there water in the channels in front of the Hotels?
I am interested in the fly-fishing options.
What would be the best fly to use in the channels?
Thanks
G

Hello G,
I'm interested aswell regarding recent fishing reports as we're arriving on the 12th next week (staying till the 26 at the Iberostar).
Last year, the baby tarpon in the channels just loved Crease flies in the mornings and evenings...see pic!
Best regards,

Henry,
It would be great to catch up before you head home.
If you have any of those crease flies spare I may buy some of you, if that is possible.

Hi Gerard,
Meeting each other certainly sounds like a possibility as we'll have a full 3 days of vacation overlap. I'd be more than happy to hand you a few of the productive patterns as well as fill you in on the fishing situation prior to your arrival...no charge...okay!...mabey a pint or two. Although I'm partial to fishing the canals directly by the Iberostar, I do occasionally make the walk to the Melia and Sol resorts to fish there. I'll be the big 6ft. 290lb dark blond haired guy walking around with his flyrod and camera in hand.
See you there!

Hey Matt,
Yup, be there by noon of the 12th. I tie all my own flies. Odds are that we'll run into each other before your vacation ends...fisherpersons being fisherperson! See you there and I'll see if I can scrounge and pack an extra fly or two...hopefully!
Later,

Hello Gerard,
I've got plenty of Crease Flies that I'm taking as well as quite a number of traditional Tarpon and Bonefish Flies. There will be no problem sliding a few towards Matt and Yourself. I've got a number of "needlefish" Cuda flies that I'm taking aswell but Cuda's don't much interest me unless they're well over 4 or 5 ft. long. I have nightmares of a big bad Cuda inflicting wounds on me that neccessitate an early end to one of my trips to the tropics.
On Eleuthera the last few years...My buddy and I were on a school of Cudas to 20lbs and better that numbered in the multiple hundereds!!!. It was basically like taking candy from a baby or perhaps more like "Picking Apples"...see one you want?...OKAY!...go get it!!!
Not long now friend,
PS...A friend from my work just arrived in Scottland this week. His name is John Reddox...his 20 yr. old son (Liam) plays for the Canadian NHL (National Hockey League) team in Edmonton Alberta.
Best regards, and see you soon!
Henry
