hi bri
sry m8 i dont but we seen the workmen in the sea with the theodlite taking all the measurments to re-build it. we where told by the managment and lino that its getting built to its original spec, i was lead to belive it was longer. i was talking to the manager and he told us the insurance was paying for all the repairs all the wood is on site, and the contractors are ready to start the work.
but as dave baino has stated its up to the guests to inform us of the state of the pier or the repairs as this is why we chose this hotel because of the pier. lino also told me the management also read this site and trip advisor, for updates this maybe true or not!!! i will still fish it broke or not regards

Somewhere special? sounds interesting?
Ive just been scouring through all the posts on here to find all the best techniques and places to fish and there should def be enough to keep me going for a while anyway. Is the Thomas cook deep sea trip any good? or is there different trips you can book once your there that are any better?
Cheers

hi bucky
i did the deep sea trip with thomas cook it was alright but nothing amazing, me and the welsh wizard had a cracking couple hours with the boys on the hobby cats from the daqurie. we also caught more fish than the deepsea boats i had barracuda and kingfish so did mark and it was cheeper and a lot more fun regards

Glad to know *everyone* doesn't lie about their looks on the internet (I'm 5'10", blonde, 22 and have some swampland in Florida if you believe this).

Hi Sherry
Iv'e not seen all of Florida yet and i can't wait to visit Toronto,
this is where i get a little confused is Toronto the capital of Florida? I think the swampland sounds good though, just get rid of the mozzies and get planning permission and me and the family will move in pronto.
p.s the alligators won't be a problem!
regards bri .

Yeah that's right - Toronto is the capital of Florida...just in a county called Ontario and a state called Canada.

hi m8 if you see the lads at the daqurie who run the hobbys they will get the bait for you, or you can catch the moarra from the pier and the lads will bait up for you as you fish. just go and have a word with them nice bunch of lads regards

Hola everybody, I just registered to this forum because i am going to Melia Cayo Guillermo from Canada on Feb 25 of this year for one week, and discovered there seems to be some good fishing around!
We (me, girlfiend and 7 years kid) intend to do mostly our own fishing, and I expect my spanish and people skills to help us make good contacts with locals at the bridge. Also, I really got some good info from posts on this forum, thx a lot!! We bring 2 medium action spinning rods, a heavy one, plus a Wt7 Fly rod. All sorts of hooks from 10 to 3/0, sinkers, bobbers, big rapala and swimbaits, home made surge tube lures, wire leaders, clouser flies, smaller crankbaits, plastic grubs and jigheads... plus some forceps for removing hooks from toothy fish.
I feel prepared, but I still have a few questions. In return, I commit to give a full report of our fishing activities when I come back!
We still don't need any fishing license, right?
Any new info on the pier renovations?
Do you have any contact at the Melia cayo guillermo that knows the fishing and some guides?
Any other spot to fish, apart from the causeway bridge, the rocks at the end of the sol beach and the pier at melia?
Any other tackle that i should bring?
We are not fussy about the species, especially given that we are with a kid who loves fishing, but has little experience in the "catching" aspect. Sure I'd love to have a chance at macabis (bonefish) but I am not ready to sacrifice a full day for one bone when opportunities exist for more family fun!
Any answer greatly appreciated. I think I read all the content of Cuba fishing forum, which is great. But answers to my post would be the cherry on the sundae.
Suerte!

bag up, the pier update is not good. It appears
reconstruction hasn't started yet.
I think they're saving it for a winter project ???

I can relate to that. Had my rod in hand for the better part of 2 weeks, heheh.http://www.cubamania.com/cuba/images/icons/icon14.gif
Wasn't a day that didn't present a fishing opportunity. We also encountered couple of surprises (fishwise) this past trip. Lobby bar and poolside fish reports had excellent numbers and variety of species caught at the bridge. Have a great trip in July!!
