Does anyone know if you can buy surgical tube lures in England?. I'm going to the Melia Guillermo on the 23rd of March to fish for Barracuda and other predator species. As anyone got any tips or any currant fishing tactics. Thanks.
I made a few 20 inches surgical tube lure using the small tube and they work excellent. I got them from a local plumbing shop in canada. I paint the tube with red and some with green then I put one a few reflective sliver and green tape on it like the one they put on the spoon and Rapala. I put a 40 lb steel leader throught the tube and tie one big triple hook with some feathers on it at the end and one big triple hook in the middle. I also push a big 2 oz lead sinker at the tip of the tube making it look like a sea eel or needle fish. Those Barracudes love this lure that I made !!! Make sure the leader and hooks are strong and big. They are powerful fish with sharp teeth. happy fishing check out my facebook account. my account is Tony Lau.

I have ordered these from Cabelas with a 7 day turn around. You might phone them to confirm delivery timeframe for your trip.
Had great success with the green front weighted or unweighted. Also use a heavy 12" steel leader which doesn't seem to effect their aggressiveness. Hail Mary cast and burn it back as fast as you can. Surface or subsurface retrieve, if theres cudas around, chances are they'll take a swipe at it.

Dead east to make them yourself with thick electrical earth wire... The green & yellow stuff is the perfect colour. You crimp 1 or 2 hooks onto wire and thread the tubing over. You can get it up to about 7-8mm diam' & after you've cut it to length pull the wire out. if you want to add weight thread some small drilled weights onto the wire & crimp ino place (inside the front of the tubing) or a larger weight in front of the lure.

Of course you could also use the longest redgill you can find in green, after all it's only to resemble a needlefish.

I caught some Barracudas, Snappers (2 lbs), Yellowtail and one bonefish with my fly rod. I was fishing around Cayo Coco. You should be able to catch Barracudas anywhere in Cuba along the coast. good luck. get them to take you out with the sailboat. You might be able to catch something big like King fish or big Snapper.

Thanks Laut, I will give the sailboat a go. How much do they charge for the hire? and whats the best time to go out?. Thanks again for all your help and advise.
morning is the best since the water has less tours swimming around!!! You will have to talk to the guy who run the sailboat. You might have to bring them a gift or two. They can't take you out for too long since other tours would like to go for a ride with the sail boat. Therefore, I like to go out in the morning before the tours starting coming out to the beach. You will have to talk to the guy. I caught many Barracudas from the paddleboat. You will have to find another fishing parnter to go out with you. It is difficult to paddle the boat and fish at the same thing by yourself. I fish from the shore alot after dark. You might be surprise how active those Snappers are at night. I use a simple sinker and hook with shrimp for those Snapper from the shore. Go snorkelling during the day and get to know the shoreline and bottom for night fishing. Those Snappers love to swimming around the eel grass bed in the evening. good luck.
