Hey. I'm a Key West-based journalist for The Miami Herald who is doing a story about recent efforts by the Bush administration to crackdown on boaters/sailors going to Cuba. What I'm wondering is whether these new measures have had any real impact on folks who've been making the trip across the Straits for years. (Last week I wrote about the criminal indictment of two sailboat race organizers.) One of the ? I have is whether this stuff is having an impact on the culture of sailors/boaters/fishermen who just want to do what they love without being hassled. I'd love any feedback you-all might have and won't use anybody's name if they don't want me to. If you PM me I will give you my phone number/etc. Thanks a lot! Jennifer Babson

Hi Jennyb, wellcome to Cuba Mania.

Can't help with your question but I would like to suggest an angle you could address:

How many boaters, sailors and fishermen are actually affected?,

Do the numbers justify the hype ???

Yep. That's what I am trying to find out! FYI - Federal register published some new regs today that are set to go into effect June 30. Not sure of details yet, but I think they include stuff Bush talked about last Feb. re boaters.
