I just tried a card called Mexiphone which claimed an amazing 43 minutes on a $10 card. The connection was horrible and the card yielded only 20 minutes(.50/min).

When questioned about the difference the company blamed Fidel and refunded the unused cards.

I have used several others which yield 28-30 mins for $10, but I am not sure if they work outside FL.

I'll update after using the cards I just purchased.

I have bought some cards from www.phonecards-prepaid.com with OK results. If you go to the rates link and request US-Cuba, you will see the various cards offered. Just don't get suckered by the Mexiphone - it is a rip off.

We tried the Freedomcall and got what was advertised, 29 minutes for $10.

Latin American Telephone Taxi was another we had used recently that yielded 28 minutes.

We bought, but haven't tried the Florida Star.

Hey guys!

I didn't try it yet to Cuba...but..why don't you use your computer to make the call?? all you need is microphone and speakers...and the msn program..or net-meeting..

I DID use it to call to the US and the rates are very low...
Usually I use my regular phone but if I need to make a very long call...I use the computer...and it has the lowest fee...
check it out!

I am from Canada so I would like to comment for those people living in western Canada. I first started to use those phone cards too because of the cheap rates to Cuba. However, Canada is further from Cuba than the U.S. and the line quality is never very good. I think when you use the phone cards they add another source of interference and the sound quality goes further down! The problems with getting through are also a problem and I have spent many hours redialing and redialing. In B.C. and Alta, we can arrange a special package with our phone company (Telus) and we can reduce our rate from the posted $2.25/ min. to $1.05/min. by requesting a specific list of frequently called countries. I think it is worth it to get through the first time and not worry about how much time is left on each card.

Hi guys,

I can provide you all with a way to call cuba for only 0.40 cents a minute, no connection fee, no hidden fees, no catch, is just 0.40 cents every minute.

What do I need?

The first thing you need is a PayPal Account. (Security)

The second is you need to prepaid the service. (Any amount is accepted)
--- Want to try it out, we'll give you the first 3 minutes free ---

Thrid, keep track of the minutes your using, or the call will be disconnected. (Example: lets say you paid 5 dollars, that's 12.5 minutes. If you know you are by the the last minute, please preapid more minutes or hand up, otherwise your call may be disconnected)

Try it out, connection is good, and the quality too.

Rick, I'm from Calgary and I call the outskirts of Havana once per week. I joined a company called "Com World". It's only 0.99 cents per month to be a member, and 0.99 cents per minute on my calls. Can get through the first time, and the line quality is very good. Give me a shout sometime at carybennett@yahoo.com

That sounds interesting. We called on Sunday to chat. Nothing special and no real news but by the time everyone got a chance to say hi I would guess we were on the phone for about 30 minutes or more. We'd prefer to keep our internet options running but the people we use and their connections are not always reliable.
