Hi Cuba Maniac!

I replied to Heather Weather yesterday, but don't seem to see it here. Is this one of the posts you're trying to move?

Hi Cuba Maniac and Heather Weather. I cut and paste my original response. Here it is:

The El Senador resort is very new and know a couple of people who just returned. They say it is very nice - but alot of it was still under construction at the time. You may have to put up with some of the "new resort" inconveniences but don't sweat it! As for "tip's" bring lots of U.S. $1.00 bills for the staff. Other things that are highly appreciated are anything for their kids. Soccer and baseball are biggies with the youngsters. One word of advice, these people are very proud and work extremely hard - never act like your gift is charity - be discreet. I would recommend taking the day trips to Moron or if you have the time/money, to Havana. This will give you a "truer" picture of these delightful people and their daily highs and lows. Cayo Coco is full of beautiful sites - try renting a bike or taxi to take you to some of the more "off the beaten path" places. You've got to go to Playa Pilar (Pilar Beach) - it's lovely! Well - I have lots more if you have any specific questions - let me know.

Special Thanks to everyone who has responded to my question about El Senador! Only 2 weeks to go... waiting. It gets colder every day here in Canada. I actually had to light my woodstove the other day with snow flurry arrival :-/

It is wonderful to talk to people who know information about Cuba. A gentleman who just got back from Cuba (Vera Dero) told me to bring little breakfast cereal boxes to give as well. In terms of soccer and baseball... what type of items are most desired?????

Looking forward to fun in the sun and escaping Canada for a week! ;D

Hi again Heather

The things that went over really well with regard to sports stuff where little mini soccer balls for the kids. I found mine at the Dollar Store. The other things is baseball hats with team logos. These were especially appreciated by people on the resorts who don't normally receive. People like the gardeners who work very hard all day. One of the gardeners outside my room one day was wearing an I AM CANADIAN shirt that he had received from, as he said, "my best friend in Nova Scotia". He wore that shirt every day! Try to actually sit down and speak with some of these people - they tell wonderful stories and are so full of life! Have a great trip and don't forget to come back to us and give a full report!

Hello! Had quite the adventure in Cuba. My friend and I arrived at El Senador and it was dreamy! Of course the very next day Hurricane Michelle was scheduled to visit! Ha Ha. We were evacuated to Moron. It was quite the adventure. 1000 People and 100 rooms.... I will never complain about the winds in Canada again!

The next day we were supposed to be bused back to El Senador, but the buses loaded quickly ...so we rented a taxi van to take us back to the resort. It was fabulous. The taxi driver took us for a little tour of Moron and we saw a little bit of the real cuba.

Once back at the resort we layed in the sun and enjoyed wonderful food and drink for the remainder of the week. I would go again in a moment! Cuba is beautiful. The walks along the beach in the morning are awesome. The very best part was not hearing the words "mom" for a whole week!

Am home now, but my friend and I are going to make a yearly adventure of our trips. No hubbies and No kids. Woo hoo!

Highly recommend Cuba to anyone ... even in an emergency, everyone is full of positive spirit and take special care of all tourists.

Have a great trip!

Heather
