I am interested in an extended stay...so I have a couple of questions....
1) can I take my pet (Yorkie dog)
2)can I rent a regular apartment? (not a tourist place)
3) can I register as self employed? (computer programmer)

I am hoping a resident, or a national might be able to answer some of these questions, although some of you experienced travelers will likely know....

you will not be allowed to rent directly/officialy an apartment although you may find cubans that will rent it unofficialy and go stay in another place, but it will cost you a max.
The average mensual salary for a cuban programmer is 180 to 240 pesos, depending of the experience. I guess you know how it makes in $ ? I would be surprised that you can register as a single person. You have to be send by a company to get a worker visa.
