;) ;D Hey its great to see Rachel's Casa here! I loved it and will be having dinner with them when I return.I just got an email from them, and asked if they wanted me to bring anything for them! They said just promise to bring myself by for dinner and they will be very happy! ;D :D ME TOO! GREAT COOK!!

Oh, I just noticed the CasasCuba link on the left, thats where I found Villa Estrella in the first place. They did not have a pool when I was there last, they must be doing good. I stayed in the private Cabana and I felt like I was royalty. Clean ,secure & phone. All priorities when I look for casas! The location is not for everyone, need bus/car to Habana Vieja @ 7-8 minutes! But also only 15 minutes to the Playa Santa Maria beaches.I liked the location!!

ps. I had booked a casa via the net, but heeded the advice of CasasCuba, about taking casa phone numbers just in case the casa i reserved is not available, it was'nt! THANK GOD! The description was nowhere near the reality of the casa! I called Rachel, and in 10 minutes I was picked up and brought to my Shangri a in Cuba!! NOW I NEED ANOTHER IN CASA CIENFUGOS! anyone know of one! personal reccomendations only please! if you have stayed there I will listen. If you stay @ Villa Estrella say Hello from Raoul from NYC.

Raoul, I think that's great that you offered to bring your friends something. However, I don't get it... You say you booked a casa over the internet and when you got there it wasn't availible? ???

Hi there...My parents are interested in renting a two or three bedroom house for next January, February and March 2004. But I need to make it clear that it should be a private house and not one they will have to share with the owners. Is the Villa Estrella a private house?

I've got a nice guy I met on this forum helping me and if anyone else has any information for me, I'd appreciate it.

Please let me know if you could help and what the rate would be for the three months...and what the house consists of.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you very much...

I just got back feb 18 and stayed in the main house. the house has 2 bedrooms and a bathroom shared on the main floor and off the living room some stairs go up to a third room. If you rent the whole of the main house for a longer period of time you can get a good price but by the night its $30/room. the owners live in the back of the house and if you request they stay out you will never see them but they are all such nice people I would doubt that anyone would say that. You can have breakfast made any morning you want which for us was 3 different kinds of juices( all freshly squeezed) eggs ham bread fresh fruits coffee and whatever you want they will go get it for you, always No Problem. cost about $3/person but negotiable for long term. laundrey services daily.they even ironed my sock. I can go on but while I was there it seemed like I was making reservations for them from all over the world and if I was planning to stay for a long period of time I would send a nice deposit to guarentee you get what you want. I visited other people while I was there and nobody had a better place and nicer people.1 example We hired a 5 piece band and had a party at poolside for 30/40 people untill about 5 in the morning, what a riot we had and Rachel had a ball too. Fantastic place to stay and relax and if you can get the cliff side cabana with its own private tropical garden BONUS. I go back on saturday march 01/03. I know I just got back but thats what Cuba will do for you. If you see a shirt that say's NO GO HOME BOYS CLUB thats me, its an official club by the way Regards Robert or I should say Roberto(new me new name)

Hi!

I would like to know, how much does the cabana cost? An the other rooms ( I understand only 1 has a private bathroome, so the prices must differ?)

Is there parking space for car?

Thanks!

" La Casa de Ines"
Hi, everyone! Glad to be here with the rest of the Cubamaniacs!
This summer going to Havana and hope to rent la casa de Ines. The owner agreed and emailed me already...
Can anyone comment on this casa? Did anyone or any of your friends used this casa before?
The house located on Plaza de Revoluzion ( I believe la Playa area )?
Any help is appreciated. I also would like some tips on the fresh food markets.
Hoping to get some fresh sea food, lobsters, shrimps... Any shopping advices are welcome too.
See ya later.

ñññññO! Rough neighborhood, Tony!! Personally, I wouldn't want to be walking around there at night. All that area in Centro Habana behind the Capitolio towards Infanta...it's scary! So...CUIDADO! Don't walk unaccompanied, and if you are accompanied, it's tough to do, but don't get caught in the talons of a slick jinetero...a tall order indeed. But be careful down in that part of town. I've seen fights...man vs man, woman vs. woman, man vs. woman...I've seen muggings of tourists and other Cubans...

That area isn't so rough. My hood here in Toronto is way worse than anyplace in Cuba, including around el centro de la Habana. Late at night there's some sketchy folks in a few of the parks, but no biggie - same deal as anywhere else. It's more about how you carry yourself and interact with others that will decide your fate than setting a curfew for yourself.

Isn't so rough? For someone who isn't intimately familiar with the area and the circumstances of the area, it's tougher than that. It's NOT like everywhere else. When you're in YOUR neighborhood, you know how to carry yourself and interact with others. When you're in a foreign country in which you haven't spent much time, are, perhaps, not that skilled with either the language or the break-neck speed by which it is spoken in the garbled dialect in which it is spoken, and the streets are as dangerous, poorly lit, poorly marked, and as confusing as they can possibly be...I'd be MORE careful, no matter how bad some of us Canadians have it where we live. There, that part of Centro Habana, is BOCA DE LEON!!! It's the lion's mouth. And not even the POLICE frequent some of those streets where you will invariably become lost. Don't take too much money with you, don't wear watches or necklaces or rings. That makes you more of a target.

The situation is bad there...let's not kid ourselves otherwise.

Seems like the hip hop headquarters of Cuba is in Allamar. I looked on map and it seems Cjimar is very close to Allamar. Is this correct?

Trying to make plans for an April invasion of Cuba. Me and about 6 of my posse.

How far is Allamr from this Casa? Habana?

Can anyone tell me more about villa Estrella's private one bed cabana? Does it have it's own bathroom? What's it like? It sounds beautiful, but it's hard to tell about the inside from the pictures.
My boyfriend and I will be in Cuba for a week in December/January. Does anyone have any recommendations for casas in Old Havana?

loek

the cabana is like a small house with living space, bedroom, AC and private bathroom.
outside is a terras with BBQ and you can step up the roof of the main house to sit in the sun. email them and say hello from Loek from Holland to Yosvany

Yes indeed, that strip along Infanta is dark and scary. You really should be carefull with your jewelry. That being said, I'll still walk up and down Infanta all night in pajamas before I even drive through some of the west side of Chicago. Use common sense and carry yourself confidently wherever you go and you'll be OK. Hell, I go to Vegas and get hustled worse!

Hi,
check this site http://www.cubarent.co.uk/ there are plenty of houses for rent. although I don't thinnk is going to make any difference in price from 1 night to 3 week. That acctualy depends on the landlords remember that ultimately you will be dealing with them. You will pay in must cases when checking out. If you stay in a private house in havana for instance that is highly demanded the landlord won't give much of a discount.

You say you're going to "write" ? Write what ?? A novel ??

Why do you visit Pepin's Real Estate Cuba. They have apartments, beach houses and bungalows. Farms and condos for sale. Talk to Prospero on this site. He is in charge of apartments and condos in Havana.

You may wish to think about what you plan on writing about. Depending on the subject matter, and if they deem you a jounalist while not under a journalist visa, you may have plenty to write about after they finally let you out of the gulag...
