There is a new law going into effect in october. Now Casa Owners can't move out and let you have the home/apartment all to yourself. They will have to either live in it with you, or have a connected room. The ones where you have a seperate entrance, seperate living room/bedrrom, but where the owner lives on the premises will be ok. Lots will shut down. Prices will also be increasing due to a new tax!

Come on! You CANNOT be serious. I find it hard to believe that they would put a restriction in place which would result in a serious decline in revenue for the Government. Talk about cutting off you nose despite your face.
Muy Loco!

The Casa Owners were starting to make too much money. Whenever a private industry starts to make all the money, it is time to change them! The new regs will put many, if not most, casa's out of business. At least the "independent" ones that allow you to live in your own palce. Now, they will have to live on the premises!

There has always been an advantage for the owner not to rent an entirely independent casa. I know several where the connecting door is only opened when the inspectors come.

My current place is entirely independent, but the owner lives next door, and the two entrances are adjacent. We also have connected terraces.

Is that too independent for these rules or not ?

Beardo, being a Cuba resident, would casa rules apply to you? Do you have the same rights as any cuban for housing?

The new rules specifically said that complete houses / appartments were allowed to be rented only to Cubans resident in Cuba...

However, surely Mrs Beardo falls into that category so I guess there might be scope for argument there.

The independent attached apartments will be acceptable. Those are the kinds I have always rented, but know many who like to have their own apartment completely. So I think many will be ok, but many will be shut down. As long as the owner can walk in, that will be good.

As for the tax, I have no information yet. We are watching this situation closely. Havana Rentals is also monitoring the situation, and now having to change their website. Either way, the tax will surely be passed on to us!

These rules change in October sometime.
